The Freelands had been Priska's home for years. Ever since her family had drifted out from underneath of her, the mare had drifted just the same. She hadn't thought about them in a long time, to be honest. The sun-hued mare glowed today under the waning summer sun, and she did not feel lonely. She found herself in a sparse grove in Halete, a place where the sun was not quite as obscured as it was in other parts of the wood. She loved the warmth on her back. It was so unlike what she'd grown up with. She dare not thank the Mother for such things, however. That was her father's job.
Annas had had a great effect on her, little she knew. Her need to rebel had been spurned by him. He worshipped the Mother like no one had ever seen before. It was She who had ruled the mountains all that time ago, not her father. Priska trained herself to do everything possible to get his attention, and that meant disobeying Her. Priska much preferred her mother, but as a filly, it was natural to desire the love of both parents. She never did get it from Annas.
Priska stood peacefully today, taking comfort in her own independence. She had been a fully-grown mare for years, and yet she didn't feel as though her life had properly begun just yet. She regretted her own proud nature, driving away anyone who tried to get close enough to know her. Priska knew that she would need to embrace tolerance if she was to be happy. Annas would hate that, she thought with a smile. It was decided, then.
