Welcome to Defying Gravity, a semi-realistic natural horse rpg!
There are no mutations, magic, or rainbow ponies here; the horses of the Homelands must carve out a life for themselves by their wits and strength alone. We have no cannons or "site-wide plot" to speak of as we've found that there are a ton of creative people out there and when our members are left to their own devices the plots stay fresh and fun for everyone. So if you're looking for a laid back site with no so called "unique" plot you must adhere to, Defying Gravity just might be the place for you!!

Wet. The smell of the islands permeated her nose and her face and her body, making the small mare feel damp. It was a feeling that was common during this season, even in the tropical haven of Kalala. Della shook her mane and droplets flew off in every direction. She was simply wandering around the small confines of their island - her mate’s island - in search of some peace. Perhaps someday they would need to move, to expand to the island of Inoa, but for now it was just their little family. Ramone, herself and Gwen... That was all right now. It was fine and all, but Della had her doubts. She and Ramone had been mated for only a couple of moons, but she already expected her womb to be quickening. Unfortunately there was no sign that a child grew within her, and her doubts were slowly creeping, choking the life out of her eyes. The mare swallowed, an action that she tried to extend to her wavering self-esteem. She wasn’t sure how she had managed to capture the attention of a stallion as strong as Ramone, but it was something she marveled at each day.
Her hooves splashed in the shallows of a lagoon, sending ripples across the surface of the water. The water was so blue that she thought it might be a reflection of the sky, but the sky itself was grey with rain clouds. Rivulets of water ran down her back as a mist settled in shaded areas of the cove. If she was looking for a sense of peace, the coves were the place to find it.
"Della! Where you at, baby girl?" Ramone called playfully, following the scent of his beautiful mate as it hung in the air before him like a sweet perfume. The stallion trotted heavily, his frame leaving large hoofprints below him as he moved through the tropical forest of Kalala. The island was perfect. The temperature was mild all the time, and it was the ideal size. Ramone could spend all the time he wanted with his mate and his sister, all the while sure that a weekly patrol was all that was needed to ensure his island's security.
Ramone had claimed the island about a year ago. He recalled the day as if it had been yesterday. The three made the trek across the channel to Kalala with ease, having picked a calm and clear day to travel. Kalala was not really too far from the mainland, at least nothing like Inoa. However, it could be treacherous on its off days. The stallion had taken it upon himself to claim the empty island quickly, assuming his position as king with poise. He was very grateful to have a place to call home that would be safe for his budding family. Ramone honestly couldn't wait until others began to join them, but who knew how long that might take.
Ramone was to be a very gracious king, should any stallions head his way. He was happy to have mares to protect, but he would never love anyone like he loved Della. She was perfect. She was as perfect as the island they lived on. He could never live with himself if he were to take anyone else. If they never had a colt, then so be it. His reign would end with him. In truth, Ramone was happier to be with his family than to rule the island.
The stallion made his way to the coves of Kalala in search of his mate. "Hey Del," he greeted softly and sweetly, stopping beside his pale goddess. Ramone rested his cheek against hers for a moment before pulling back with a smile. "How you been?"
She was lost in her thoughts and the beauty of the coves, so much so that she didn’t hear the approach of her lover. When he stepped beside her and pressed his cheek against her, the pale mare jumped and made a small squeaking noise. She looked to that side with wide eyes before breaking into an embarrassed smile and lowering her eyelashes into her usual - not really intentional - “bedroom eyes”. It was as if she was always trying to be sultry even when she wasn’t; her mother had called her Dreamy Eyes, and her father had often joked that she would be able to capture any stallion with just a look. Della never believed them, but perhaps that was why she had Ramone now. “Hello love,” she said in her usual sweet voice. Honestly, it was like she was supposed to be ultra delicate, just in the way that Nature had made her. Sweet, bell-like voice, dainty head and clear blue eyes... Della didn’t want to be delicate. She wanted to be what an island queen was supposed to be, to make Ramone happy, and to be able to lead others when they came to the island. She just wasn’t sure if she could.
He was looking at her with such a loving look on his face that she couldn’t help but giggle. “Oh Ramone,” she said, blinking up at him, “anything new on our island today?” They’d been on their island for over a year now, but she was still getting used to the various sounds and weather patterns that created the environment that they had claimed for them and their future generations. A droplet fell from a overhanging leaf and dropped onto Della’s face, right between her eyes. Unable to stand it anymore, she stepped up and nuzzled her head into the space between his cheek and his neck. Sometimes she worried that if he looked at her too long, he would realize how imperfect she was and how afraid she was that she would never have foals for him.

Ramone happily allowed his mate to rest her neck beneath his own, feeling the natural protective feeling stallions got when they defended others. He tucked his head in a bit in somewhat of an embrace, calmed by the scent of his mate. "Have I told you yet today how beautiful you are?" Ramone smiled, not that Della would be able to tell. His voice was as dark as his face, not raspy, just dark.
She asked what was new on the island. Glancing up and around him as he thought, Ramone didn't have an answer immediately, hoping his simple "Hmmm" would suffice while his mind wandered. He'd spent most of his time on the coast today, his small amount of feathers plastered to his hooves with wet sand. Nothing out of the ordinary... "No, all's well from what I've seen today!" It was a good feeling to get into a routine, especially one as relaxing as living on an island with the love of your life. If anything bothered him, it was that their herd hadn't grown in a while. He hoped more would cross the channel at some point...
Gwen was around somewhere, but he never knew with his crazy sister. He hoped one day she would be as happy with a stallion as Ramone was with Della.
