Constance
A tinkling, melodious giggle escaped from the grey mare as she bounded as freely as she once did in her youth; chunks of the white, fluffy snow and ice being kicked up as she moved about the like side. The snow and winter had brought about an uncharacteristically high mood for Constance, who normally did not enjoy the snow as much as many of her other counterparts did. This season seemed very different, however. With the arrival of the heavy snow at the lake, Constance couldn’t help but let go of her typical calm, collected demeanor to frolic and play as if she was a young filly again. The differences, however, were stark from her youth – her body was mature, the epitome of feminine and graceful, as her movements seemed akin to a graceful dance as she frolicked in the snow.
It was hard not to be joyful with the fresh snow and the strong underlying current that something good was coming. She could feel it deep in her bones that her life was going to be altered in some way. Though perhaps not immediately, it was coming, and that alone was certainly enough to make the flea-bitten mare feel joyous on this particularly cold and snowy morning.
Snow had been a very rare thing for Constance when she was young, having been born in the South. Her parents rarely left the hot climate, and when they did, they did not stray too far from warm temperatures and humid weather. She could remember the first time she had seen the snow, and had wanted nothing but to see it again despite the fact her coat wasn’t heavy enough to deal with the chilly temperatures. But as an adult, she could surely enjoy the snow all she wanted, much like she was doing on this particularly sunny, winter afternoon. With another bright peal of laughter, the mare eventually settled herself to catch her breath. With a wide, happy smile and white locks carelessly thrown out of place, Constance’s ink colored eyes scanned the snowy landscape around her. Perhaps there was someone nearby to enjoy the snow with...
