Welcome to Defying Gravity, a semi-realistic natural horse rpg!
There are no mutations, magic, or rainbow ponies here; the horses of the Homelands must carve out a life for themselves by their wits and strength alone. We have no cannons or "site-wide plot" to speak of as we've found that there are a ton of creative people out there and when our members are left to their own devices the plots stay fresh and fun for everyone. So if you're looking for a laid back site with no so called "unique" plot you must adhere to, Defying Gravity just might be the place for you!!

Koko had not had the honor of meeting the island's new King. In all honesty, she'd never taken the time to fool with meeting the previous king, though he had drifted away recently and been replaced. And so, the mare was on the hunt.
Could royalty be found through scent alone? It was a curious thought... Of course, should the new king not bray out in announcement of his presence, Koko would need to rely on her black nostrils. Her chocolate eyes glanced this way and that, as if they would assist in her search. They spotted a rainbow of colors the small island boasted, and yet no other equine. The mare had no idea what color she was looking for, but her small pointed hooves moved quickly and with purpose. She played a game with herself, her head jerking this way and that. How quickly could she spot him? Even then, should she find a stallion, how likely was it that it would be the king? The young mare was playful and adventurous, to say the least.
Lonely walks down the beach. The life of a king with no herd. Argus sighed lightly in his self pity, his tail swishing limply behind him as he made his way. Occasionally the pale colored king would veer into the tide, shining up his hooves for no known reason. The sea-salty air moving up through his nostrils and into his native lungs. It felt good to be on the beaches. It felt even better to know you were in charge of protecting such beaches. All the poor chap needed now was some company.
Argus often found the colorful, tropic birds to be a joyful touch to his island habitat. Today, they chirped playfully, fluttering from tree to tree on the edge of the beach. The stallions baritone called out to them in response, as if their language barrier had been breached. A smile cracked on his face and he didn't feel quite as lonely.
Then he smelled her. Sweet and innocent, just like the birds. Brown eyes scanned the horizon and found her, black and white, simply lovely. "Why hellllooo!" His friendly tone reached out to her friendly appearance. What a fine day for a walk, ain't it miss?" She looked familiar. She smelled familiar. She was an islander.
Koko didn't need to search much further to discover the new king of her island, though she hadn't been made aware of his identity just yet. He was a light fellow, much taller than herself. Koko whinnied with happiness as she turned on her hind hooves to face the newcomer. Her ears pricked, the mare gave him all of her attention.
"A walk? I'm on the trail of the new king!" Koko was never one to mince words. If she was on a mission, there was no reason to keep it a secret. The mare smiled as her wispy tail swished back over her black hocks. Her behavior could often be considered filly-like, though that was how she felt. Kokopelli never felt the need to be serious when she was being herself. Her only hope was that others could understand her desire to live life happily and not just condemn her as puerile.
A sweet smile swept across Argus' nearly white lips as his ears took in her words. She was a simple little thing, but beautiful none the less. "Well I hate to disappoint, ma'am, but you're headed in the wrong direction." His smile had turned all but too friendly. He was beaming at the thought of a herd member. Gleefully, if that could at all be achieved in the sand, he trotted closer, arriving just to the right of her shoulder before explaining himself.
"My name is Argus. And I've been entrusted to care for these lands and all who dwell in them." The pale king didn't like the word king. He knew he would have to use it should any beasts come about trying to claim his spot, but in this intimate setting he preferred to call himself "keeper". "I get the feeling you're from these parts m'lady. Forgive me if I've misplaced you in my memory." He nodded a formal greeting, his ears listening to the buzz of the birds just off the beaches.
ooc: i feel like he'd make sexy children. xD his personality is giving me some trouble. xD
The stallion's accent was different and strange to her, though it could just have been that he was a stranger. Perhaps he did not have he exotic, non-island heritage that she had initially given him without much of a reason. Koko's mind had always been a rambling one - one that would make no sense to anyone but her. Beneath her ebony poll was a brain unlike any other. It was unfocused, but thoughtful and sweet. The mare's brown eyes glanced this way and that over the stallion's frame, as if to memorize his appearance so that she would never mistake him for a common equine again. This was her new king! She'd found who she was looking for!
Koko smiled widely and tossed her head back a bit in celebration, with an additional small whinny. "How could you be a disappointment? You're who I was looking for all along!" she exclaimed happily, obviously not catching his sarcasm. After realizing her mistake, she laughed a little at her own response. "Sorry, sometimes I get a little... overexcited."
His mention of her origins led her to ask the very question she'd been dying to ask. "I'm Kokopelli; it's nice to meet you Your Majesty," she said with a bob of her head. "And yes, I was born on Kalala, though I don't believe we've met before. I would remember one as humble as you."
Koko smiled as he stood beside her. She absolutely adored speaking to others who wanted to be spoken to. There were few equines on Kalala, so Koko was sometimes forced to make conversation with the local wildlife, who were oftentimes too busy with their own lives to hear about an equine's. Oh, what a terrible life she lived, Koko scoffed.
This mare was intriguing. Although innocently bubbly and not openly smarter then thou, Argus could tell the little thing was witty. The cream stallion wondered what was really going on up in her head. He wanted to pick her brain, but refused the thought on account of it would have been rude to do so to a perfect stranger. Argus' tail flicked away sand gnats as they stood, taking in their piece of paradise. After a few moments had passed the king took a step towards the water, letting the salty liquid surround his hooves. "Well since we were walking." He looked back to the mare with another sickeningly sweet smile. "Care to join me further down the beach, m'lady?" He didn't know what else to say, but he wasn't about to lose the only company he'd had in days. "What do you think about the ideas of royalty? To be honest I find it quite tiring. I'd almost gladly give it up to anyone willing to protect the land as much as I." He proposed the conversation as he began to take steps down the beach, hoping she'd follow.
"Royalty is the only way to govern a herd," Koko responded quickly. "It is how you care for your subjects that is the important part - whether you are a tyrant or whether you are loved. I for one would hope you would strive to be loved."
The mare's quick responses were not always well-received, appreciated, or expected of others she met. She didn't care. Koko was wired differently than others and without differences, how could life be exciting? The mare followed the stallion's movements side-by-side, taking note of his own answers. "It is admirable that your mission is to protect and not to conquer." Koko spoke as if she were thinking aloud, not necessarily expecting response from the king.
The small equine glanced this way and that at the land as she thought over his idea of royalty being "tiring". Perhaps it wasn't a bad thing... It was natural to be tire of a tough job, though if he was as passionate about it as she hoped he was, she wouldn't think it would exhaust him. Or perhaps it was the idea of royalty in itself that bored him. Such a thing was reasonable as well. Royalty had been a staple of herd life for years and so far was the only well-established form of government in the homeland. Others had tried different tactics, though none were as successful as the tried-and-true, classic Lead Stallion/Lead Mare system. Koko wracked her brain trying to decide what it was about him that puzzled her.
"Assuming you are the king I have been hoping for for my island, I sought you out to join you in your quest to 'protect' the land," Koko smiled widely and sweetly.
