The sun beat down on her back, helping with the rising temperature that creeped up her skin towards her face. Juno shuffled her feet, gazing down at the dark brown-grey of her hooves. Her head, her mind was muddled and cloudy. Glee filled her heart, but her mind stuttered and stammered through any semblance of a reply. Why was she here? Did she know? She’d felt like he led her here, like it was where she was destined to be, but now that he had her pinned under his gaze she wasn’t so sure. The filly swallowed and blushed furiously before peering up at him from under her lashes. Her heart felt like it was being passed back and forth in some insane game between two opposing sides. One the one hand, she was elated that he didn’t, in fact, have a mate, but on the other hand... He was looking at her hard, and she could feel the intensity.
“What are you doing in the canyons...” The question weighed heavily on her young shoulders. The urge to tell him, to be honest with him and to tell him that she was in love with him - it was almost too much. She looked up at him and opened her mouth. “I-I was looking f-” The words lodged in her throat. Juno turned her face away and stared blankly at the red stone of Dask. There wasn’t anything she could say to make him take her seriously. She knew that he viewed her as a child, the princess, and that he didn’t love her like she did. The naive hope that had shot through her in the beginning had died, and she steeled herself for the rejection.
But wait.
Why would she have to bear the rejection? She was a princess, and growing into adulthood. Juno turned to look back at Tonto, and braced herself. “It is my business why I was here. But thank you Tonto, for your help. I-” Her voice broke and she struggled to keep her composure. “I hope we meet again.” With that, she turned on her hoof and trotted away, eventually breaking into an all out run when she was out of sight, her heart dropping with each step she took.
